Best in show - Cardiff council wins top award at Royal Welsh Show with a "little help" from Open Space Creative

The Cardiff Stand at the Royal Welsh Show has won the prestigious title of "The Best Commercial Stand" in Show with the design and project management of the trade stand provided by Open Space Creative. The award was presented by the Royal Welsh Show president Kate Thomas.
Over 1000 trading stands feature in Europe's biggest agricultural show, and during the four day event it's estimated over 280,000 visited the showground.
The stand; designed by Open Space Creative; features the Cardiff: Capital for shopping garden. The garden floral centre piece was designed by Cardiff's parks service staff to celebrate the new St David's development which opens in the autumn of 2009.
The garden features a large shopping bag overflowing with plants plus four raised beds acting as shop windows representing different aspects of shopping in the city. The capital's traditional arcades are also present in the garden and are represented by a delicatessen and a jewellery display.

The award is the second for the garden, which also won a silver gilt award at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.
It wasn't just the garden that proved popular with visitors to the stand, many people came to find out more about the new St David's development (opening October 22), John Lewis Cardiff (opening September 24) and the new Hayes Apartments development.Sport.Cardiff and the Cardiff Blues also proved to be a big hit with visitors.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: "To win an award at one of Wales' most prestigious events is fantastic. The show offers a great opportunity to promote Cardiff and to talk to people from across Wales and beyond. I would like to thank everyone involved with the Cardiff Stand for all their hard work."
Steven Madeley, centre director of St David's, said: "The Royal Welsh Show is a major event on the Welsh calendar and was an inspiring setting for visitors to find out more about the exciting development of St David's. It was great for us to get out there and meet the public face to face and for us to also win this award is excellent news."
Stuart Hulley, director of Open Space Creative, said: "We are delighted with the award winning results - the pavilion design which incorporated a 100 square metre double decker structure and interior content certainly enhanced the profile of Cardiff and proved a "must see" attraction to all visitors attending the Royal Welsh Show in 2009.

Stuart Hulley of Open Space Creative said:
"This has been such an exciting project to work on, not only as a creative project but we have learnt so much from the organisers who have contributed to the project - we must thank all of you who contributed. The results I think are very exciting and we are very grateful to Motomo for their research and evaluation skills in the initial development of this project - it certainly helped to create a clear brief for us all to work to, the project has been almost six months in development and I feel the results will be justified when trade and consumer shows reap the benefits!"
